NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION

The National Research Development Corporation (NRDC), a Government of India enterprise, has been the country’s leading institution in promoting and commercialising technologies, protecting intellectual property, and transferring innovations from laboratories to industries. Over the past seven decades, NRDC has concluded more than 5,000 license agreements in India and abroad, and has filed over 2,000 patent applications on behalf of various R&D laboratories and institutes across the country. By handholding entrepreneurs and MSMEs, NRDC has consistently played a pivotal role in strengthening India’s innovation ecosystem.

Recognising the need to enhance technology access for entrepreneurs in Andhra Pradesh, the Andhra Pradesh MSME Development Corporation (AP MSME DC), under the World Bank–supported RAMP programme, entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NRDC on 27th June 2025. This strategic partnership, valid till March 2027, aims to drive initiatives in Technology Transfer, Intellectual Property facilitation, and allied services for the benefit of MSMEs across the state.

Through this collaboration, MSMEs in Andhra Pradesh will be empowered with advanced technological solutions, IP awareness, and innovation-driven opportunities. The initiative seeks to strengthen the state’s innovation ecosystem, enabling MSMEs to become more competitive, resilient, and aligned with the larger vision of Swarna Andhra 2047 and the “One Family One Entrepreneur” mission.

Technology Data Bank

NRDC is now recognized as a large repository of technologies spread over almost all areas of industries, viz. Agriculture and Agro-processing, Aerospace, Bio Technology, Chemicals including Pesticides, Drugs and Pharmaceuticals, Food, Metallurgy, Electronics and Instrumentation, Building Materials, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics, etc. The licensing of technologies by NRDC has led to establishment of a large number of small and medium scale industries in the country. Funding Support

a. Program for Inspiring Inventors and Innovators(PIII) – Patent Assistance:
The scheme primarily aims to support grassroots innovators, entrepreneurs, academic institutions, R&D organizations, start-ups, and similar stakeholders in securing patent protection for their innovations. Under this initiative, NRDC provides financial assistance to eligible applicants during each financial year, covering expenses up to the grant or registration of the patent. This support is extended in line with the directives issued by the administrative ministry and concerned departments. NRDC actively undertakes and facilitates patent filing for novel technologies and innovations across stakeholder groups, ensuring their protection through the appropriate Intellectual Property Offices (IPOs) in India.

b. Techno Commercial Support:
NRDC’s core mandate includes providing both technical and financial interventions to bridge critical gaps in the “innovation chain,” thereby facilitating the transformation of promising inventions or processes into industry-ready technologies. This program is designed to offer essential support to applicants in addressing minor but crucial challenges. Through this scheme, NRDC extends techno-commercial assistance to Indian inventors, scientists, technocrats, NRDC Awardees, Licensees, and other eligible stakeholders. c. Development Projects and value addition for Priority Projects:
NRDC provides financial assistance to support further development and value addition of selected technologies assigned to it. This support is extended to R&D institutions, academia, licensees, and individual innovators, with the objective of facilitating successful commercial production and market readiness of these technologies. This scheme plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between research outputs and industrial applications and ensuring the technologies reach market successfully. d. Seed Funding:
NRDC Seed Funding support is extended to early stage start-ups mainly engaged in development of new products or new applications of existing products and incubated in any Central/ State supported institutions. e. Technology Development Validation and Commercialisation(TDVC) Scheme:
TDVC Scheme aims to bridge the gap between laboratory-level innovations and their successful commercialization. The scheme provides financial and technical support to enable further development, validation, and value addition of promising technologies. IP Management

NRDC assists Innovators, Entrepreneurs, Start-ups, R&D Organizations, Government Establishments, Ministries of Central and State Governments and Public & Private Industries to secure IP protection in India and foreign countries by way of providing technical and legal consultancy services for IP filing and related services for the manufacturing technology / processes / product augmented by them.

National Establishment for Technology Readiness Assessment (NETRA)

NRDC in collaboration with CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (NIScPR) has established NETRA facility that provides a comprehensive overview of the level of technology maturity across various domains of Science & Technology. The facility is dedicated to bridge the gap between technology developers and end-users. Assessment of Technology Readiness Level ensures that the technology being developed attains the necessary guidance and support for successful commercialisation.

Design Clinic

NRDC’s Design Clinic Facility helps orient MSMEs/ Startups in product design & development, design process and design thinking to generate variety of innovative design solutions to improve competitiveness of MSMEs/ Startups. is a strategic model of design intervention, where a solution to an existing design problem is diagnosed and remedial steps suggested by a multidisciplinary team of design experts

The main goal of the Design Clinic Facility is to assist Startups/MSMEs/Industries/Academia in designing, improving, synchronizing as per various regulatory guidelines, their products through design intervention, enabling them to be more competitive in the global market. The DCF focuses on providing services that help improve the aesthetic, functional, and marketability aspects of products.

In addition to its core technology transfer and IP facilitation activities, NRDC offers a range of value-added services to support successful commercialization of innovations. These include market surveys to assess the demand, competition, and potential adoption of new technologies; feasibility studies to evaluate the economic, technical, and operational viability of proposed ventures; and basic engineering design packages (BEDPs) that provide essential technical specifications and process flow details required for setting up industrial-scale operations. These services help innovators and entrepreneurs make informed decisions, reduce risks, and enhance the readiness of technologies for market deployment.
